    Orienteering: A Great, Outdoors Scandi Adventure for ALL!

    Welcome to the 2025 orienteering season in Columbus, Ohio, fellow Scandinavians! Central Ohio Orienteers (COO) will have its second 2025 event on Saturday, May 10 at Slate Run Metro Park, Canal Winchester. Dress in layers, prepare for rain, and come with an extra pair of socks and shoes in your car because May can be a muddy month! We had a very good turnout in March, including new people! Let's keep it up!

    Brain Benefits: In a study specifically done of orienteering and how good it is for our brains, they found orienteering makes us use so much of our brain to figure out where we are and how to get to the next place we want to go. Orienteering, for sure, gets us out into nature and outside of our daily routines.

    • Saturday, Nov 8 OR 15: Alum Creek State Park OR Delaware State Park. Check back soon.
    • Sunday, December 7: Alley Park, Lancaster

    Event Logistics 

    Look for conspicuous signage at events, typically a large white/orange square at the park entrance and another near the reserved shelter/park section where the club starts and finishes. Electronic punching on the long, advanced courses, will start with the May meet. We will still offer traditional, manual red "paper punches".

    Start your walk or run between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Details are available on the COO website or COO Facebook pages. If possible, let's meet at 11 a.m. at the start or see you on the trail.

    SLATE RUN DIRECTIONS: From I-270 take US 33 South toward Lancaster for about 5 miles. Go south on Gender Rd through Canal Winchester. At the round-about, take SR 674 until you reach the Park entrance on your right.

    After entering the park, follow the orange and white square at the entrance, continue to the shelterhouse, which has another orange and white square. The start is on the right.

    No charge for Metro Park events, but COO (Central Ohio Orienteers) accepts donations.

    Come celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day with us! We'll be meeting at the IKEA on Polaris (1900 Ikea Way) on Saturday, May 17th from 10:30am to 12:30pm in the southeast corner of the restaurant. Setup starts at 10:00 AM. Volunteers are welcome.


    There will be lots of friendly conversation, a fun parade with the Norwegian flag with kids and Norwegian Bunads and all who want to parade, an invitation to bring and share a single Norwegian or Scandinavian treasure (smaller than a breadbox) with Scandinavian friends and new colleagues. At 11:30 LUNCH will be available for purchase at the IKEA restaurant. Beverages, including coffee, and reasonable Scandinavian-style lunch (NOT breakfast) would be attractive to many. We hope we get the chance to celebrate with you!

    Join us for a fun-filled afternoon as we stream the Eurovision Song Contest Finals live from Switzerland! Whether you're a die-hard fan or just curious, come celebrate with fellow Eurovision lovers and cheer on your favorite Nordic contenders.

    Highlights:

    • Watch the contest live — it runs approximately 4 hours, stay as long or as little as you'd like!

    • BYOB and please bring a snack to share (alcohol welcome).

    • Suggested donation: $10/person to help cover the cost of the venue.

    • Some performances may contain mature content parents should use discretion when bringing children.

    Who will win the crown?
    Will it be Sweden's beloved KAJ with their hit Bara Bada Bastu (yes, sung in Finnish!)?
    Or are you rooting for Erika Vikman from Finland, Kyle Alessandro from Norway, or Sissal from Denmark?

    Let’s bring out our Nordic flags, hats, and Eurovision spirit to cheer them on!
