    Orienteering: A Great, Outdoors Scandi Adventure for ALL!

    Welcome to the 2025 FALL orienteering season in Columbus, Ohio, fellow Scandinavians! Central Ohio Orienteers (COO) will have its fifth 2025 event at Highbanks Metro Park.Check-in is from 11am to 1 pm. Check here and on the COO website for updates. 

    We had a very good turnout in June at the Whetstone Park of Roses, including new people! Let's keep it up!

    • Saturday, October 18: Alley Park, Lancaster, OH. (Indian Ridge picnic area)2805 Old Logan Rd SE, Lancaster, OH 43130.
    • Sunday, Nov 2: Batelle Darby Creek Metro Park 2705 Darby Creek Dr., Darbydale, OH 43123.
    • Saturday, December 13: Scioto Audubon Metro Park on Whittier Peninsula, Columbus. MASS START.

    Event Logistics 

    Look for conspicuous signage at events, typically a large white/orange square at the park entrance and another near the reserved shelter/park section where the club starts and finishes. Electronic punching on the long, advanced courses, will start with the May meet. We will still offer traditional, manual red "paper punches".

    Start your walk or run between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Details are available on the COO website or COO Facebook pages. If possible, let's meet at 11 a.m. at the start or see you on the trail.

    Crossings Concert: Musical Migrations with Laura Loge and Steve Luksan

    Join Vesterheim and Luther College for an evening of song commemorating the 200th anniversary of organized Norwegian migration to North America! Soprano Laura Loge and pianist Steven Luksan will share a recital blending classical music, historically popular music (some very silly), and nostalgic chestnuts their grandparents used to sing. With repertoire ranging from the well-known to nearly-forgotten gems researched by the performers, this event is certain to delight music lovers and Norwegian history aficionados alike!

    Laura Loge Biography: Soprano Laura Loge has been hailed for her “luminous stage presence” and “characterful and versatile voice.” Opera roles include Violetta (La Traviata), Musetta (La Bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Ännchen (Der Freischütz), Lisa (La Sonnambula), La Fée (Cendrillon), Lucy (The Telephone), Pousette (Manon), Guadalena and Ninetta (La Perichole), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), Second Lady (Magic Flute), Goddess Diana (Iphigénie en Aulide), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica) and Miss Silverpeal (The Impresario).  She has performed as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Incidental Music to Egmont, Nielsen’s Symphony no. 3, Fauré’s Requiem, Grieg’s Songs for Soprano and Orchestra and Peer Gynt, Schumann’s Mass and Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Verdi’s Requiem. She regularly presents recitals of Nordic art song which has performed across the United States, in Norway, including in Edvard Grieg’s villa. She has released two CDs, Breaking the Language Barrier, and Songs & Piano Music of Edvard Grieg, Op. 33 & 66. Her third album, Der skreg en fugl, featuring world premier recordings of songs by Norwegian women, will be released on Chandos in 2025. Laura is the Artistic Director of of the Nordic Chamber Music Series in Seattle, Music Series Manager at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, and the President and Founder of the Northwest Edvard Grieg Society.
