    About the Movie

This award-winning film received several accolades and nominations. Roger Ebert praised director, Jan Troell, as "perhaps the best of the post-Bergman generation of Swedish filmmakers." The movie depicts the struggles of regular people in their journey to a new, promising land, after leaving their challenging but known homeland.

"Troell has a feeling for the historical past, and for the meaning and beauty of ordinary lives... 'The Emigrants' is a very rare film." - Roger Ebert, RogerEbert.com, January 15, 1973.

In our Part 2 journey, join us for the continuation of an entertaining, insightful, and touching movie that allows us to better understand Swedes and Sweden (and other countries) of yesteryear and now.
